More than 50,000 outdoor activities lovers participated this year at the „Biggest Sports Hours” sports and health festival, part of the „Sport is Good” campaign, powered by Telekom Sport.  During July - August, the festival organized by Telekom Romania, in partnership with Smartatletic, GetFIT, BTL Medical Equipment Romania, Red Cross Romania, Freewheel and Eboda, offered to the inhabitants of Ploiești, Brașov and Iași the opportunity to participate in over 98 sports classes conducted by 134 national and international instructors.
In addition to the new locations, this year's edition brought new classes and sports, including Les Mills Body Pump, Functional Training, Les Mills Grit, Fight Klub Khai Bo, Kangoo Jumps marathon, Basketball and Capoeira.
„The „Sports is Good” campaign is among the first three most popular sports events dedicated to amateurs, recognition that motivated us to continue to offer unique sports experiences to participants, but it also challenged us. We decided in 2018 to organize the "Biggest Sports Hour" festival in new cities, and the national survey „Romanians’ attitudes and behaviors related to sports”, conducted by Quantix Marketing Consulting for Telekom Romania, allowed us to choose the locations preferred by Romanians, a decision that proved to be successful", stated Ionela Păunică, Executive Director, Telekom Romania Foundation and PR Expert, Telekom Romania.
There were more than 50,000 spectators at the activities of the eighth edition of the festival and other 6,500 people actively participated in sports classes. In addition, 1,500 people received free medical tests, recovery and aesthetics sessions provided by BTL Medical Equipment Romania.
"The participation of BTL Medical Equipment Romania at the „Biggest Sports Hour" festival meant putting all our resources at the disposal of the participants, the number of examinations and treatments carried out during the events amounting to approximately 1,500 (cardiac screening, non-invasive physiotherapy procedures and medical aesthetics and, for the first time, urogynecology therapies). We were greeted with interest, participants being curious to try the latest technologies in the field. We received a very good feedback, which encourages us to join future editions and every time to come up with new things", stated Daniel Milea, Spokesperson, BTL Medical Equipment Romania.
Besides the eight areas where they were able to attend outdoor sports activities, participants had the opportunity to assist the demonstrations offered by the Red Cross Romania. 146 people learned how to perform first aid procedures and how to react in situations when the lives of others are in danger.
For the social cause of this year's edition of the festival 12,590 RON were collected. The amount represents the donations made through the Galantom platform, the donations made at the three events and the participation fees from the UpDown Run Cross organized within the activities in Brașov. More than 250 people, including 30 Telekom employees, ran for the cause of Elena Bunea, the only Romanian patient alive with the Berdon Syndrome. Telekom Romania Foundation completes this sum by donating up to the amount of 25,000 RON for the intestinal transplant operation that can be done in a specialized medical center in Birmingham.
The study „Romanians’ attitudes and behaviors related to sports” was conducted online, on a nationally representative sample of 1,040 people aged 18-55 years. Data collection took place between 27.04.2018 - 08.05.2018.
According to the study, Telekom is the telecommunications company perceived as the most involved in supporting sports in Romania, both in performance and amateur competitions (about 39% of the associations among the telecommunication companies) and the ”Sports is Good" campaign attracts the highest number of participants in amateur sports events in Romania. In addition, the locations of the eight edition of the festival were selected based on the preferences index of the respondents.
