Czech operator Nordic Telecom launches non-commercial pilot operation of broadband internet by air in selected locations, as the first operator in the country. In the locations Prague, Vinor and Dobris, speeds above 400 Mbps were reached under real conditions, according Telecompaper. The speed is allowed by LTE and bandwidth in the 3.7 GHz band, where Nordic Telecom holds double the spectrum compared to competitors. The technology allows higher speeds and a better connection stability than any other operator can currently offer via LTE or Wi-Fi.
The total investments amounted to around CZK 750 million. Nordic Telecom is building a new network mainly in medium-sized and smaller cities. Nordic Telecom will be the first in the Czech market to bring LTE based broadband by air Fiber Like Experience, which will provide quality comparable to fibre-optics networks. The operator is testing technologies from four suppliers.
